Meet our Founder

Erin Masutani, PharmD, MS-HNFM, CCN

Erin Masutani, PharmD, MS-HNFM, CCN, is a clinically trained practitioner specializing in complex, chronic health concerns through a root-cause, systems-based approach.

She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a Master’s degree in Functional Medicine and Human Nutrition, and has advanced training in clinical nutrition, functional medicine, and lab interpretation. Her work integrates pharmacology, nutrition, and systems biology to help clients better understand what is happening in their bodies—moving beyond symptom management to identify and address underlying imbalances.

Before transitioning into functional nutrition, Dr. Masutani spent years working in pharmacies, where she saw firsthand the gap between symptom-based treatment and true resolution of chronic health issues. This experience shaped her clinical approach today: one that prioritizes thorough assessment, detailed lab analysis, and individualized strategy.

As a former Division 1 athlete, she developed an early understanding of the connection between metabolism, performance, and recovery. That background continues to inform her work, particularly in helping clients optimize energy, resilience, and overall physiological function.

In her practice, she works closely with clients to review comprehensive health histories, interpret labs, and build targeted, personalized protocols. Her process is structured, collaborative, and designed to provide clarity—so clients can move forward with confidence rather than guesswork.

While her approach is grounded in clinical training, she also recognizes the body’s inherent capacity to heal when given the right conditions. Her role is to identify what may be interfering with that process and guide clients in restoring balance in a way that is both practical and sustainable.

Her work is particularly suited for individuals who feel they have not been getting clear answers, who are navigating complex or persistent symptoms, or who are looking for a deeper, more comprehensive approach to their health.

Who We Are

Ho‘āla Wellness Consulting is a personalized nutrition and wellness practice focused on helping individuals better understand and address the underlying factors contributing to complex, chronic health concerns.

Our approach integrates principles of functional medicine and nutrition within a systems-based perspective, along with a comprehensive review of health history and available lab data. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, we emphasize identifying patterns, supporting metabolic function, and developing individualized strategies tailored to each client.

We work collaboratively with clients to bring clarity to their health by connecting the dots across nutrition, lifestyle, and overall physiological function. Each plan is designed to be practical, sustainable, and aligned with long-term well-being.

While our work is grounded in advanced training and a deep understanding of human physiology, we also recognize the body’s capacity to adapt and recover when given the right support. Our role is to provide structure, education, and guidance throughout that process.

This practice is designed for individuals seeking a deeper level of insight—those who want to better understand their health, make informed decisions, and move beyond short-term or surface-level approaches.

Hō‘āla: To Awaken and Rise

At Hō‘āla Wellness Consulting, our name reflects our foundation. Hō‘āla is a Hawaiian word meaning “to rise” or “to awaken,” and represents our focus on helping individuals better understand their health through a deeper exploration of nutrition, physiology, and metabolic function.

Our approach is rooted in functional medicine principles and pro-metabolic nutrition, with an emphasis on identifying underlying factors contributing to chronic health concerns. We draw from a broad foundation of metabolic and physiological research, including the work of Dr. Ray Peat, whose studies in thyroid function, cellular energy, and hormone regulation inform aspects of our metabolism-centered perspective.

We focus on supporting metabolic function and overall physiological balance through nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and individualized recommendations designed to align with the body’s natural processes.

We specialize in:

  • Pro-Metabolic Nutrition Support
A nutrition-focused approach using food, micronutrients, and strategic supplementation guided by pro-metabolic principles and metabolic physiology research, including insights from Dr. Ray Peat. This framework is used to support energy production, hormone balance, digestion, thyroid function, and nervous system regulation.

  • Medication Education & Review Support

Providing education on prescribed medications and how they may interact with nutrition, lifestyle, and metabolic function. This includes helping clients better understand their medication regimen and supporting informed conversations with their prescribing provider.

  • Lifestyle & Nervous System Support

A structured approach focused on supporting natural physiological rhythms through sleep, movement, light exposure, stress regulation, and mineral-rich nutrition.

  • Metabolic Pattern Support

Identifying and working with underlying metabolic and biochemical patterns that may contribute to persistent symptoms, with a focus on improving overall physiological function and resilience.

Our Philosophy

At Hō‘ala Wellness, our work is grounded in the understanding that metabolic function plays a foundational role in overall health. We integrate functional medicine principles, pro-metabolic nutrition, and systems-based analysis to better understand the factors contributing to persistent symptoms, rather than focusing solely on symptom management.

Our approach is individualized and informed by clinical training and applied experience. We emphasize supporting the body’s core physiological systems through nutrition, lifestyle-based strategies, and targeted interventions aligned with each client’s unique needs.

Our perspective is informed by a broad range of metabolic physiology research, including concepts influenced by the work of Dr. Ray Peat. These insights are used as part of a practical, individualized framework aimed at supporting energy, resilience, and overall function.

We work with individuals navigating a range of health concerns, including chronic symptoms, burnout, hormonal transitions, weight-related concerns, and low energy, with the goal of improving clarity, function, and long-term physiological resilience.
